Better Gas mileage

Filed under: Logs Greg Lipscomb on November 5, 2005 @ 11:55 am

Here is a simple way to increase your gas mileage in your car. Gas has been really expensive lately, and this website [link] states that if you ad 2-3 ounces of acetone to 10 gallons of gas, it will help the gas to vaporize more easily, and will increase your miles per gallon anywhere from 20-30%. That is 6-8 miles more per gallon. Acetone is cheap, and readily available from any hardware store, or walmart, and one gallon would last a really long time. There is an entire yahoo group forum on this that discusses ways to get better miles per gallon. Some are even building their own carburetors and state that they can get better gas mileage. That is not much help in a fuel injected world, but acetone might just do the trick. (This article has been submitted via my submit news tip. If any of you have a how to project that you would like on my site, feel free to submit it to me, or email me at lipscgr@gmail.com) Thanks Mike Sartor of Spencer, WV.

maybe a wash anyways, depending on your car. $5 isn’t that much

  22. Just completed 2 750 mile trips (same trips, same gas station for fill-up, same weather, same speeds, …) in a 2003 C230 Mercedes Kompressor. First trip w/ out acetone the mercedes computer read that my mileage was 31.3. With acetone at 2.5 oz per 10 gallons of premimum, (and no other differences) the mileage was 33.2.

The trips were taken back to back. This was my experience.
