Temperature Controlled Switch for your PC Case

Filed under: Uncategorized — Glenn Domingo on March 20, 2006 @ 7:22 pm

A lot of new PC cases sold nowadays have provisions for additonal case fans on the sides, but too many spinning fans can be very noisy and annoying. Turning the fans “on” only when necessary would be a good alternative, this project by Tony van Roon can do just that. The circuit uses a thermistor to act as a switch when the temperature of the CPU or inisde the case increases to a certain level. It has also a trimmer resistor which you can adjust on the temperature level you want to activate the fans. The LED and the resistor connected to the diode is needed if you need a visual indicator that the relay is on, if you don’t need any visual indicators you can omit that. The circuit uses 12 volts supply so you can just tap from your computer ( Black and Yellow ). I’m planning to make my version of this project and post it here when I have the time. You can make yours and tell us all about it. Link

  2. Interesting Indeed… I believe antec is making power supplies that will turn on the 2nd fan once it reaches a certain temperature
