DIY Scanner Camera

Here is a cool DIY project that consists of scrapping a digital scanner, and using the CCD to make a digital camera. Apparently the CCD in a scanner rotates as it scans. Well this guy built his own rotating platform, and stuck a lens on the sensor. It takes a while to take a photograph but if you are patient you can get some neat results. See this picture taken of his garage door opening and closing.

I’m just itching to buy a really good digital camera, but until they become cheap enough for me to just buy one as a toy, I wanted something digital camera like to play with.

I started playing around with my flatbed scanner to see if I could capture images of stuff around it, by holding the scanner in my hand and rotating it as it scanned. This allowed the focusing lens in the scanner to pick up some of the light from the surroundings

Check out this cool hack here.
