Curt Vendel who used to work for Atari, and has designed the Atari Flashback systems has announced the future production of the Atari Flashback Portable. We may have all seen the original Atari Flashback which was released around Christmas of 2004. This is a console system that does not require any cartridges, but rather has the roms built into the machine.

Curt Vendel has announced the release of this portable console on Atari Age forums. This device has a 2.5 inch LCD screen, and has two joystick ports so you can play head-to-head games. It also has a USB port. I do not know if this means that you can install new ROMs or not. This portable is based off of the Flashback 2 system which comes with 40 games, and uses a similar processor to the original Atari, so that the games are near perfect recreations of the originals.

This device will run for 15 hours on 3 AAA batteries, and will have an AV out port for NTSC units. There is no word on when this prototype will be released.
